Miss Behavior
I am a Certified Pet Dog Trainer and Behavior Specialist, CPDT-KA. I am also certified through the Canine Good Citizen Program as an evaluator. Most recently, i am a certified evaluator for APDT's new C.L.A.S.S. program
I always knew that I would work with dogs and have an impact on their lives. I remember stating in my 8th grade
yearbook that my future goal was to work with animal shelters, helping with
the dog's rescue and rehabilitation. My ultimate goal is to be a major
resource for those dealing with fear aggressive dogs, because they have
a soft spot in my heart. That part of my life will always be dedicated
to a dog named Coral who unfortunately wasn't one of the lucky ones but
gives a deserving chance to those following in her footsteps.
In
2005, I earned my Associate's Degree in Animal Science from UNH
Thompson School followed by my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. I
interned under the head trainer at the NH SPCA throughout my
college education. I started teaching my own classes in 2006 and have
since attended seminars, become a member of APDT,
partnered with Club Canine in Portsmouth as their head trainer, and then officially branched out to this business of my own in 2008. I recently relocated to New Durham, NH in October 2009 and became certified through CCPDT in 2010.
Throughout college, I also volunteered with CCI
helping to train and socialize future service dogs. I have been
developing my own client base for almost 6 years now and am continually learning
and looking for further growth opportunities.
I use positive reinforcement methods, knowing that dogs do best in non-confrontational and trusting relationships. I do not rely on physical consequences but instead, I use social consequences as needed which has a more stable impact on a dog, being such a social animal!
My philosophy is about training owners so that they can
have a stronger relationship with their canine companions - "Training
owners on behalf of their loyal companions". I know that dogs need
people like myself to bridge the gap between the way humans expect to
communicate with their dogs and the way that dogs have been bred to
communicate. In classes, you will constantly hear me telling you to
manage situations so your dog can succeed. I teach a lot of problem
solving, management, and bonding skills.
I have 3 dogs,
Fletcher, Felix and recently adopted Cora, 1 cat named Milo, and 2 Therapy Goats named Gus and George. They are
all rescues and each have their own stories and special places in my
heart. You will often see one of the dogs partnering with me in my classes. I look forward to more future adoptions! Felix and Fletcher have earned their Canine Good Citizen Certifications
