Semi-Private Manners Classes

Group classes are ideal for socializing, learning how to work with your dog around distraction, and laying the foundation for many basic manners. 

These classes have just 3-5 dogs, leaving more one-on-one time for you. Unless otherwise noted, each class is 5 weeks long and takes place at The Barn Doggy Daycare in New Durham, NH

Puppy Social

 

Approximately 50 minutes long 

$15

This one day class is geared towards puppies who need to be socialized, follow proper house training and crate training rules, and stop nipping and chewing on everything!

• House/Crate Training
• Handling/no biting
• Proper Socializing
• ...plus plenty of opportunity to answer all your puppy questions!

Please note: This is a one week class, meant to give you an opportunity to socialize your puppy and get answers to the most common puppy questions. If you are looking for a longer class, you will want to take the Puppy Learn Your Manners

Vaccine Requirements: Puppies under 16 weeks old:  Kennel Cough (Bordatella)  2 Rounds of DHP (Distemper/Parvo/Hepatitis Combo)  Lyme vaccine highly recommended!  Puppies over 16 weeks old:  Rabies Vaccine  Kennel Cough (Bordatella)  All 3 Rounds of DHP (Distemper/Parvo/Hepatitis Combo)  Lyme vaccine highly recommended! Learn Your Manners

CLASS FULL

5 weeks long, 50 minutes per week

Level 1 Manners for dogs over 12 weeks old

 

Next Class: Saturdays, starting May 11th

10am for Puppies under 6mos 

11am for dogs over 6mos

This class is great not only for dogs who need to learn the basics, but also for dogs who have learned some of the basics at home but need work on their listening skills around distraction! Some behavior we cover include, but are not limited to:

 

• Lie Down
• Come when called
• Stay
• Leave it/Don't touch it
• Wait for permission
• No Jumping
• Leash Manners
• Settle
• Share

 Please keep in mind that because this class is for puppies/dogs 12 weeks +, there is only very controlled socialization (which will be important to learn!) Free play will be encouraged for puppies separately. Exceptions to this may be made upon meeting the dogs/puppies and evaluating their temperaments.

Beyond the Basics

*Please contact me if you have taken a class with another trainer. Only a limited number of trainers receive pre-approval because of similar teaching style and training methods

Taking what you learned in level 1 manners and adding the 4 D's:

• Distraction
• Distance
• Duration of Time
• Difficulty

... plus new behaviors such as:

• Heel
• Cues at a distance
• "Stop"
• Meet and Greets (other dogs and people)
• Go to Bed/Go to your place
• Advanced Leave It, Come, and Stay

If you plan to try for the Canine Good Citizen Title, then this class would be a great one for you and your dog!

    If you want to improve your dogs manners and listening skills but want to go beyond the usual obedience-style, then this class may be for you!

Teaching your dog through tricks and games will improve your relationship with him, teaching him that working with you can be fun and rewarding. It really tires out your dog mentally. Not enough mental work is often the reason why dog's get themselves into trouble, making bad choices.

This class will also give you some really great perspective on how your dog learns and processes new information. Remember that obedience cues and tricks are the same thing: a cue that gets linked to a behavior. It's just our change of attitude that makes all the difference. We don't laugh when our dog lays down for us, but we do laugh and have fun when our dog plays dead. And if our dog doesn't play dead, we don't blame him like we would if he doesn't lay down because we told him to. Because our attitude is different, the dog's response is different.

Come learn how to take that "trick-training" and apply it to practical scenarios as well!

Are you expecting a 2-legged child and want to be sure your 4-legged kid(s) are prepared? Come to this workshop and learn some essential behaviors to teach your dog BEFORE bringing your baby home! 

Tackling behaviors such as:

• Back Up (teaching your dog to respect your personal space)
• Go lie down/settle
• Desensitization to Baby Sounds
• Leave it
• Discussion of other proper ways to prepare your dog for this wonderful new addition (and making sure he/she finds it as wonderful as you do!)
